A book is a nature preserve, a habitat for non-commercial thinking, for disinterested non-linear consciousness. A novel is a refuge for the imagination, for the wild beasts within.
A life lived in realization of the broad natural range of the mind, I sometimes think, is a life of constant pain, mitigated and treated only through the relief of physical exercise and by writing itself.
